Make the most of your visit to the path with our resources

We’re pleased to support Visit Wales’ Year of the Trail in 2023, a national campaign showing how much Wales has to offer using trails as a springboard for exciting opportunities and experiences. 

It’s a natural fit for us – there’s 870 miles /  1,400km of diverse Welsh coastline to explore, discover and enjoy. Here’s how you can start your trailblazing journey.

Short strolls or long-distance challenge – it’s up to you

With over 80 walking itineraries to choose from, including multi-day walking ideas, you’ll be spoilt for choice.

All of our itineraries have been specially curated to start and finish at places where you can find somewhere to eat, drink and stay and where possible, with public transport links.

Most of our walks are between 3-6 miles with a mixture of “there and back” or circular walks – which can be done in half a day – depending on the terrain, weather and your level of fitness. The exception is our multi – day walk itineraries, which are between 6 to 12 miles per day.

Accessible walks: browse our list of path sections suitable for exploring on wheels –from pushchairs to wheelchairs

Ideal for:  multi-generational walking groups.

Family friendly walks – between 2-4 miles, these are designed for younger children with things to keep them occupied along the way. 

Ideal for: getting some screen-free time with the kids.

Wow walks –the path is full of contrasting and surprising vistas around the corner and these itineraries are no exception – they’ll make you go “wow!” – just make sure you have you camera ready.

Ideal for: great photo opportunities

Castle walks – there are more than 600 castles in Wales, more per square mile than anywhere in the world with some of the most impressive feats of architecture along the path. We’ve got 20 walking itineraries which combine a coastal stroll to a castle.                 

Ideal for: combining a fresh coastal air and learning more about Wales’ unique history.

Multi-day walks – with up to 3 days of walking itineraries for each section of the path, there’s details on what you’ll encounter on each day, public transport details and additional attractions for your stay.

Ideal for: outdoor enthusiasts looking for great views and experiences along the path.

Know before you before you go

Plan ahead with our useful resources:

  • Plot your route - find out where the path is near you and measure the distance before heading out using our interactive coast path map
  • Check the distance use our distance tables find out potential start and finish points of your journey (in miles and kms) - great for  helping to find places to eat and drink for shorter trips or scoping where you could base yourself for a longer trip.
  • Enjoy Responsibly – read up on the Countryside Code  - it gives great advice about enjoying parks and waterways, coast and countryside, safe and responsibly.
